Originally conceived in Burnie, a city with a rich papermaking heritage, Paper on Skin™ is a biennial event showcasing the artistry of paper. Founded by renowned paper artist Pam Thorne, the event challenges artists to create wearable pieces using at least 80% paper.
Beyond the competition, Paper on Skin™ includes a gala event, exhibition, and workshops. In 2020, a successful film adaptation introduced the event to a global audience.
The gala parade is a highlight of the event, featuring a diverse array of living artworks. Each piece tells a unique story, captivating audiences with its visual beauty and profound meaning.
Paper on Skin™ is a celebration of both the past and the future, honoring the region's heritage while inspiring creativity and innovation.
Immerse yourself in the wonder of "Alchemy," a captivating kirigami dress. Inspired by the intricate forms expressed within Ernst Haeckel's radiolarians, this creation unfolds from a stunning 18th century scientific illustration into a wearable work of paper art. Microscopic organisms, invisible to the naked eye, are nature's true alchemists, constantly changing their environment and themselves through a process called transmutation.
I am so excite to announce my participation in this event and introduce my creation:
